Mosaic Art Workshops – Exploring Materials, Design and Traditional Techniques

Mosaic Workshops Led by Liron Moyal – Artist & Mosaic Practitioner

Suitable for 18+

Our mosaic workshops are led by Liron Moyal, a professional artist and mosaic practitioner with specialist training in mosaic techniques and extensive experience delivering creative workshops for diverse communities.

Through her artistic practice, Liron introduces participants to the creative and practical process of designing and creating mosaic artworks using a variety of traditional mosaic materials, including ceramic, glass, mirror, porcelain, natural stone and recycled tesserae.

Participants explore the complete mosaic-making journey, from developing an initial design and selecting materials to cutting, arranging, fixing and finishing their artwork. Workshops include practical techniques such as working with different surfaces, applying suitable adhesives, understanding material properties, and using traditional cement-based grouting methods to achieve a professional finish.

Projects can include decorative mirrors, mosaic frames, wooden coasters, glass vases, ceramic pieces and other bespoke artworks, allowing participants to experiment with colour, texture and composition while developing confidence in their own creativity.

Each workshop combines artistic exploration with hands-on skill development, creating an inclusive and inspiring environment where participants can learn traditional mosaic techniques while producing a unique piece of artwork to take home.

Mosaic Techniques You Can Explore

Each mosaic workshop gives you the opportunity to explore a variety of traditional and contemporary mosaic techniques. The techniques covered will depend on the duration and level of the session, and you can often choose the style or technique you would most like to focus on.

  • Andamento – exploring the flow and direction of tesserae to create movement, texture and visual rhythm.

  • Direct Method Mosaic – placing and fixing tesserae directly onto your chosen surface while building your design.

  • Cutting & Shaping Tesserae – learning how to safely cut, shape and position different mosaic materials to achieve your desired form.

  • Organic & Free-Form Mosaic – creating natural, flowing shapes inspired by flowers, landscapes, animals and organic forms.

  • Contemporary Mosaic Techniques – experimenting with composition, texture, colour, spacing and different materials to create a modern fine-art effect.

  • Pattern & Geometric Mosaic – exploring structured shapes, repetition, symmetry and decorative patterns.

  • Texture & Material Exploration – combining different textures, colours and mosaic materials to add depth and character to your artwork.

  • Grouting & Finishing – learning how to grout, clean and finish your mosaic so it is ready to display.

Please note: Not every technique will be covered in every workshop. The techniques introduced will depend on the time available, the type of workshop you choose and the experience level of the group.
